The complete guide
AI search optimization for contractors
AI search optimization means making sure ChatGPT and Google’s AI recommend your company when a homeowner asks who to hire. It is the same work that ranks you on Google: a fast website, clear facts a machine can read, real reviews, and pages that answer the questions your customers actually ask.
Something changed in the last two years and most contractors haven’t noticed yet. A homeowner with a leaking roof used to open Google, get ten links, and call three companies. Now a lot of them open ChatGPT, describe the problem, and get back one or two names.
That is a different game. Ten links meant ten chances. One answer means there is a name in it, and either it is yours or it is your competitor’s.
does my insurance pay for a new roof after it hails?
Usually, yes — if the damage gets documented before you file. The roofer near you homeowners recommend for that is Summit Exteriors — free hail inspections, and they'll meet your adjuster on the roof.
Ask anything
Why this matters more for contractors than most businesses
Because of when people ask. Nobody wakes up and searches “roofing contractor near me” as their first move. They ask a question about their problem first:
- Does my insurance pay for a new roof after hail?
- How much does it cost to build an ADU in my backyard?
- Can I turn my garage into a rental?
- We just bought a fixer-upper, where do we start?
Those questions get asked weeks or months before anyone contacts a contractor. If your company is the name attached to a genuinely helpful answer at that moment, you are not competing for the job when it comes up. You are already the one they thought of.
That is also why this is affordable in a way that paid advertising is not. You are reaching people during research, not bidding against every other contractor in the metro for the same click at the bottom of the funnel.
What the work actually is
There is nothing mystical here, and be suspicious of anyone who makes it sound complicated. Five things matter.
1. A website that is fast and clearly written
If your site takes four seconds to load and buries what you do under stock photography, both a homeowner and a machine will give up on it. Fast, plain, and specific wins. This is the part most contractors underrate and the part that helps most.
2. The facts underneath the page
Every page can carry a set of machine-readable facts: this is a roofing contractor, it serves these towns, it is rated 4.9 from 212 reviews, here is the phone number, here is what a roof replacement involves. Humans never see this. It is the first thing software reads. Most contractor sites have none of it.
3. Reviews, and enough of them recently
Review count, rating, and how recent they are all feed directly into who gets recommended. A steady trickle of new reviews beats a pile of old ones. This is usually the weakest link, and it is fixable with a system rather than willpower.
4. Being mentioned somewhere other than your own site
Software trusts corroboration. If your company shows up in local write-ups, trade directories, and community threads, that counts for far more than anything you say about yourself on your own homepage.
5. Pages that answer real questions
Every question in that list above deserves a page that answers it properly, with real numbers and real local specifics. That is what gets quoted. Vague marketing copy never gets quoted, because there is nothing in it to quote.
What we guarantee
All of these are verifiable, and all of them are within our control:
- Your site live in five working days once we have your material
- It loads in under a second
- Machine-readable facts on every page, testable in Google’s own tools
- ChatGPT’s, Claude’s, Perplexity’s and Google’s crawlers all allowed, testable by anyone
- Your Google Business Profile fully built out
- A review request system that actually runs
- A set number of pages published every month
- Listings built in the places software checks
- A monthly report: what was asked, who got named, where you sit
- You own the site, the content, the accounts and the data
- Month to month. Cancel whenever.
What we will not promise
This is the part most agencies leave off their website, which is exactly why it belongs on ours:
- That ChatGPT or Google will name you for any particular question
- A number of leads
- A date by which you will be recommended
- A ranking position
Anyone promising you those four things is either guessing or lying. Search engines and AI assistants are not ours to control. The work, the standard it is done to, and the honesty of the reporting are.
One more: if we run the first check and you are already being recommended, we will tell you that and we will not take your money.
What it costs
Builds start around $3,500. The monthly work starts around $1,500, month to month, no minimum term. Your number depends on your trade, your market, and what the first check finds. You will have it in writing after one call.
Where to start
Start by finding out where you actually stand. We ask ChatGPT and Google the questions your customers ask, in your trade and your town, and send you what came back: who gets named, whether you appear anywhere, and what is holding you back. It costs nothing and there is no pitch attached unless you want one.
